25 神の愚かさは人よりも賢く、神の弱さは人よりも強いからである。
26 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたが召された時のことを考えてみるがよい。人間的には、知恵のある者が多くはなく、権力のある者も多くはなく、身分の高い者も多くはいない。
27 それだのに神は、知者をはずかしめるために、この世の愚かな者を選び、強い者をはずかしめるために、この世の弱い者を選び、
28 有力な者を無力な者にするために、この世で身分の低い者や軽んじられている者、すなわち、無きに等しい者を、あえて選ばれたのである。
29 それは、どんな人間でも、神のみまえに誇ることがないためである。 (コリントの信徒への手紙一 第 1 章)

25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.
27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
28 God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are,
29 so that no one may boast before him.

これは、使徒パウロと協力者ソステネからコリントの教会の共同体へと宛てられた手紙です。このころ、パウロはマケドニアの信徒を訪ね、コリント（コリントス）へもまわろうとしていたのです。

「神の愚かさは人よりも賢く、神の弱さは人よりも強い」というのも、印象深い信仰の言葉です。これも、霊的な賢愚、強弱を表しており、信徒はこの世的には愚かで、弱い者であっても、霊的には、賢く強いということです。そして、霊的な賢さや強さは、やがて、この世でも現れるのです。
