ただし、６月30日の開業以来、少なくとも３回ほど嵐のために電気系統が故障して大きな遅れをだしていた。
The collision is the latest setback for China’s fledgling bullet-train program. The $34 billion Beijing-Shanghai high- speed rail line, the world’s longest, has suffered major delays from storm-related electrical breakdowns at least three times since it opened on June 30.
技術的な問題に加えて、中国の鉄道投資には汚職の疑惑がつきまとっている。
In addition to technical faults, China’s spending on its railways has generated accusations of graft.

Somalia famine predictions ignored
ソマリアの飢饉から数千人の生命を救えるチャンスが世界にはあった。
しかし、８か月前に飢饉の警告があったのに、援助国は注意を払わなかった。
The world had an opportunity to save thousands of lives that are being lost in parts of Somalia due to the famine, if only the donor community had paid attention to the early warning systems that predicted it eight months ago.
国連によれば、同国の南部には現在、酷い栄養失調にある児童が31万人いる。
ソマリアの人口の半分は飢饉に襲われている。
ある地域では５歳未満の子供１万人のうち６人以上が毎日死亡している。
According to the UN, the southern part of the country hosts 310,000 acutely malnourished children at the moment. At the same time, nearly half of the population in Somalia is threatened with the famine. In some regions, at least six out of 10,000 children under the age of five die daily.
